The Challenge

The Antrema Biocultural Site, a community protected area, created at the request of communities to help them safeguard biodiversity, particularly the crowned sifakas which it judges to be the incarnation of their ancestors and which are experiencing significant population growth (500 in 2000, 600 in 2010, 800 in 2020) but their habitat is shrinking due to savannah fires requiring rapid intervention to reduce these forest fires.

Urgent Solutions

In order to be able to protect the areas of scattered forest islands, constituting the habitats of many endemic animals and plants, a mixed multi-actor brigade (communities, forest ranger, police) was created by us to enforce protection and to monitor fires, especially in the dry season.

Why your donation matters

Our presence in the Biocultural Site of Antrema and this Katsepy peninsula is critical towards protecting the Crowned Sifakas and to preserve the entire biodiversity within their habitat while working on with local communities towards sustainable development in harmony with the Sifakas.
